Suspension

We have developed a number of custom suspension upgrades to handle the increased horsepower of the car and tame the dreaded torque steer. Below you will find our latest developments. All of these pieces will be available through Engstrom Motorsports.

Monster Strut Brace with Torque Limiter
Here is Mr. RPM at work Tig welding the front strut brace. He is a NASCAR certified welder and does a great job.

This is the new strut brace that we have developed to replace the weak stock unit. This new piece is made of aluminum and is much stiffer than the stock piece. Additionally, the design has been improved in include a brace that bridges directly across from each strut tower and ties them together. We have also incorporated a top engine mount into the brace to help stabilize the twisting forces of the engine. This unique element uses a bushing stabilizer that rises from the back of the engine to connect to the brace extension.

Subframe Brace
Another new piece is this subframe brace. This piece is wider than some other units. In addition to have multiple attaching points to limit subframe twist, the positioning and extra width act to protect the oil pan from impact. Knowing all the cracked oil pans out there, this piece does double duty. Below are the pictures of the finished product after powder coating.

Front Suspension
We rebuilt the front suspension using adjustable Koni sport strut inserts and H&R springs to lower the car about 30mm. Also, you can see that we replace all the stock suspension bushing with poly bushings from PowerFlex.

Rear X-Brace
Not to leave the rear hatch area unaddressed, we developed what we call the "X-Brace" to tie the rear shock towers together and limit body flex in the hatch opening.

Rear Springs & Shocks
The rear suspensionn was rebuilt using adjustable Koni shocks and H&R springs. Combined with the other upgrades, the suspension should handle what ever we want to throw at it.

Rear Axle Reinforced
In order to handle the additional power and stress that we are planning to throw at this car, we throughly reworked the rear axle. To limit twisting forces, we closed the stock C-channel which you can see in the first photo. We also added the diagonal bars for further strength. Lastly, to limit any flex where the hubs attach to the axle, we added additional reinforcing plates to both sides. These can be seen in closer detail below.
