Drive Trains

Below are the details of all the upgrades and changes that were made in this area.

Special Care Package - Now, this is the type of care package I like to receive! Here is my new 9-3SS transmission, Saches sport racing clutch/friction disc, huge full 3 inch downpipe, tuned header, and 9-3SS cable shifter. More pieces of the puzzle straight from Sweden via air freight. For a better look at the pipes after a little polishing, check the Exhaust page.

Cable Shifter Linkage - Since we upgraded the transmission to a 2002 9-3SS transmission with a Selholm limited slip diff, we also converted the stock bar actuated shifter to the more modern cable shifter. This eliminate some of the engine vibration transmitted through the old shifter rod and besides, its cool to have newer stuff.

Drive Shaft - Here is a pic of the rebuilt intermediate shaft with new bearing, seals, and a fresh powder coating. Now, you didn't think I was going to do everything in chrome did you?

Flywheel and Clutch - While the transmission was out, we sent the flywheel to Dave for a quick haircut to shave about 6 lbs off the weight. To hold all the horsepower down, we opted for a special version of the Saches racing clutch that is not too stiff.

Clutch Master - Since this car was produced in 1997, it was originally equipped with the cable actuated clutch. In order to bring her up to speed, I have installed the later model hydraulic clutch. This gives you a close up of the holes that you need to drill to install the new clutch, note the bolt hole below the master cylinder that is no longer used. Also, you might ask what that strange red, large gauge wire is coming out of the bulk head. It is the cable for the battery relocation box that I installed in the trunk or boot (see Interior page for pics). Sure is a lot easier to work on things like this with the car totally dissembled.
